A food company on the move

A food company on the move

“The recipe for my catering business is simple – good food with a friendly and efficient service. When I started catering in 2009, I worked from a converted ice-cream van that also gave the business a unique identity. However, the van was not designed to deal with my growing number of clients. It took too long to set up and dismantle operations, slowing service. In the food business, efficiency in processes is critical. It was time for an upgrade in my business and I decided to buy a lorry with a customised kitchen design. This was a substantial investment, for which I needed support, both in funding and business planning.

To make a persuasive case for investment to banks, I enlisted HBV, a charity in Hackney that supports local entrepreneurs. Its finance adviser helped to forecast the impact of the investment, write a business proposal and even guided me in meetings with banks. With the new lorry, I can now offer a wider menu and have built a larger clientele. As my business grows, there are new opportunities and challenges, and I continue to seek support in business development from HBV’s Hackney Enterprise Network.”
